L to R: Hillcrest students taking a break from jumping rope to create a banner for the students at Kedowa.  Kedowa students holding the banner, and students in their school yard.
In March 2007, third and fourth-graders at Hillcrest Elementary School (Oakland, California) held a jump-rope-a-thon fundraiser.

The students raised over $3,000 to purchase solar panels for Kedowa School for the Deaf and Wangadonji Primary School.

Since the Deaf students at Kedowa School communicate through sign language, having solar panels allowed them to stay up late at night, "talking" in their dormitory, for the first time!
This was our first major project as TamaniAfrica.  In an area with over a 30% HIV infection rate, this VCT is vital.  Knowledge is necessary to reduce transmission, and this clinic provides free testing and counseling to area residents.

Through the following fundraisers and through individual donations, we raised the $9,500 necessary to provide everything from the foundation to the front door.  Thanks to all of those people who helped give a community the knowledge they need to lead healthy, informed lives!
Although Africa makes up less than 10% of the world’s population, they have 60% of the world’s HIV rates.

Private Donations
This fundraiser that launched TamaniAfrica had 3 successful years,  raising a total of $4,500 in 2008 aloner!  Of this money, $1,720 went for the uniforms and $2,250 for the school lunch program, with an additional $550 given as general donations to the project.

Many HIV orphans and other vulnerable children cannot afford the $8 necessary to purchase a school uniform.  Through a yearly Holiday Card Campaign, we have provided school uniforms to over 650 needy children at schools in Migori, Kendu Bay, Wangadonji, Rabando, and Kedowa schools.  We also currently feed over 700 kids lunch at school.  See our Programs page for more details.
